Father's Day

I wanted to say Happy Father's Day to all those dad's out there. There is no gift that we can ever receive that can ever compare to the gift that made us all dads in the first place.  Our children.  It is without a doubt the most important, most rewarding and challenging undertaking you will face in your lifetime.  I happen to be one of the luckiest dads in the world.  I have learned more from my children about love, life, commitment, trust, sacrifice, faith and hope then any book or person could ever begin to teach. It is not only today but everyday we should realize their importance in our lives and make the effort to tell them and show them how truly amazing they really are. Sarah, Emily and Zachary, I love you always, love dad.
I try not to be serious but situations occur that need to be talked about and this seems to be as good a place as any to bring them up and put them out there.  I hope you don't mind but after all it is my blog.

The final round of the US Open is always played on Father's Day but it looks like everyone will be playing for second place.  Stranger things have happened (actually it did happened in April at the Masters to the same player, good luck Rory).  The Marlins manager just resigned today, probably saw the writing on the wall and quit before they fired him. I kind of respect his decision knowing that if he got fired they would have to pay him the rest of his contract.  Walking away too soon should be commended.  Congratulations all you Boston Bruin fans on winning Lord Stanley's Cup.  It's been a long time (1972 to be exact, but who is counting) and took Roberto Luongo to turn into Roberto LeBrongo for them to win it all but let's not diminish the achievement ( I think I just did).
Speaking of the Heat and the C word( choking) the Mav's were ripe for the picking,  the Heat should have won in 4 straight when Dallas was unable to make a shot because by the time games 4 and 5 rolled around they couldn't miss.  Basketball is a simple game, if you make shots you will win, if you continue to miss you will lose.  LeBron being in the witness protection program certainly didn't help their chances.  I have a feeling the Heat are going to be a factor for the foreseeable future.
Gators baseball team won yesterday and I know nothing about college baseball but the odds are 1 in 8 to win it all.  Please be advised that I have a daughter at both UF and FSU and therefore am allowed to root openly for both teams throughout the year without repercussion from any follower ( I refer to it as diplomatic immunity and will utilize it for the duration of this blog).   Speaking of UF and FSU if you have never been to the Swamp or Doak Campbell for a football game you are missing one of the most exciting events in all of college sports.  This year Oklahoma visits Doak on September 17th and Alabama visits The Swamp on October 1st, if you are lucky enough to get the chance make every effort to go.  The problem with the University of Miami is ever since they moved from the Orange Bowl they no longer have home field advantage.  I don't know there record since they moved to Dolphin stadium but I am confident it can't compare to the last 20 years at the Orange bowl.  The old dump was right on top of the field and when filled to capacity literally swayed from side to side and was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. Watching Bosworth chase Vinny around on saturday afternoon along with Neon Deion  returning kicks was legendary, not to mention wide right, wide left and all the epic battles with FSU and UF.
On another random tangent I just finished reading three books by Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest.  I Don't want to go Oprah on all of you but I will and highly recommend reading all of them. They have been translated from Swedish to English so it takes a little getting used to (Sarah continue to plow through the first book please) but is well worth it.  The first book, The girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been made in to a movie that is coming out this fall with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as the leads, should be interesting.  I guess movie reviews will also randomly appear too.  The Hangover 2 was predictable but funny and obviously leaves room for The Hangover 3. Harry Potter is coming to an end, I can only wish we all have a successful a run as Harry has.  That's all for now, Happy Father's Day.  Dean
